The WINE project’s initial outcome is a comprehensive “Research of the State of the Art in Wine and Wine Tourism Sector”. This research provides a comparative analysis of Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Norway. It examines viticulture, emerging wine tourism opportunities, market trends, and responses to climate change and sustainability.
Key findings include:
- Diverse Industry: Italy and Spain are global leaders in wine production , while colder climate countries like Norway and Belgium are developing innovative and sustainable approaches.
- Challenges & Opportunities: The sector faces climate change impacts, rising costs, and needs advanced digital skills and fundraising. A promising future is driven by young, well-educated, and innovation-eager entrepreneurs.
- Sustainability Focus: All countries prioritize sustainability , with various approaches from technological innovation in Italy to organic and biodynamic farming in Luxembourg.
- Growing Wine Tourism: Wine tourism is expanding , with Italy and Spain as mature markets and other countries like Bulgaria and Norway developing niche offerings despite unique challenges.
- Training Needs: The research underpins a new training syllabus , designed to equip entrepreneurs with skills in climate adaptation, sustainable practices, digital marketing, and fundraising.
Training Course
The second key outcome of the WINE project is the “Training Course,” designed to equip wine and tourism entrepreneurs with essential knowledge and skills for a dynamic industry. This course focuses on adapting to climate change, implementing sustainable practices, enhancing tourism experiences, and leveraging digital tools for business growth.
Key aspects of the training course include:
- Target Audience: It is tailored for both current and aspiring entrepreneurs in the wine and wine tourism sectors.
- Course Objectives: Participants will learn to understand climate change impacts on wine, apply sustainable practices, create engaging wine tourism experiences, develop effective marketing and storytelling strategies, utilize digital tools, secure funding for innovation, and tackle current industry challenges.
- Teaching Methodology: The course combines theoretical lessons with practical experiences and includes field visits to ensure practical and realistic learning.
