BRATANOV WINERY

Green Practice

Estate-grown grapes are in the same region. Limited intervention winemaking respects natural expression and reduces additives in all wines. Hand-picking and small-batch production support quality and sustainability. Wild fermentations, no additives as enological products. For several years now, the wine has also had a noble cause – its sale supports the activities of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, and in particular their project to protect the population of the Imperial Eagle in Sakar.

All grapes are estate-grown, eliminating the need for external supply chains. Use of international and local varieties encourages biodiversity. Organic fertilisation and minimal chemical input support soil health and water retention. Low winemaking intervation preserve human helth. For several years now, the wine has also had a noble cause – its sale supports the activities of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, and in particular their project to protect the population of the Imperial Eagle in Sakar.

Visitor Engagement & Experience

The winery gives a second life to an old building by adapting it for wine production. This does not make it attractive to tourists, but the owners welcome passionate wine lovers and connoisseurs of natural wines. They offer meetings with local winemakers, exceptional tastings among the barrels, and vertical tastings. They are the first producers to revive the traditions of growing the forgotten local variety Tamyanka. As a member of a community association of wineries in the region that organizes four wine festivals, the winery's vineyards are the host and festival location. The festivals attract tourists to the region by encouraging them to explore the wines, local food, historical sites, and natural attractions in the area.
