ORBELUS WINERY

Green Practice

Fully Certified Organic Viticulture Founded in 2000 and certified organic by 2006–2007 under Balkan BioCert/IMO standards, all 200+ decares (approx. 20 ha) across 20 plots are grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. Terroir Diversity & Native Varieties Vineyards lie between 160–250 m altitude in varied soils, cultivating both international varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, etc.) and endemic grapes like Early Melnik and Sandanski Misket Gravity-Driven & Gentle Winemaking The barrel-shaped facility features multi-level cellars, allowing gravity-assisted grape handling that reduces mechanical intervention - preserving fruit integrity during production Low-Sulfite Approach Winemaking uses minimal SO₂ in line with organic standards, producing gentle wines that reflect true terroir.

Organic Certification Timeline Achieved EU-compliant organic status by 2006–2007 after conversion; first vintages from own vineyards appeared in 2009–2010 Vineyard Scale & Distribution Approximately 250 decares (25 ha) across 20 terroir-diverse plots demonstrates scale and environmental understanding Recognition & Awards International accolades: Orbelus Melnik 2015 earned gold and Orbelus Getika 2015 silver at the Singapore Newspaper Wines, Spirits & Beers Competition.
