TERRA TANGRA WINERY

Green Practice

Terra Tangra became the first Bulgarian winery to receive EU organic certification (achieved around 2007–2009), ensuring its vineyards remain free of synthetic pesticides and herbicides Vineyards cover 350–400 ha on south‑facing slopes of the Sakar Mountains with decomposed granite soils, consistent wind, and sparse rainfall – ideal for organic dry farming. Low yields (~5 t/ha versus regional averages of ~15 t/ha) prioritize grape quality and ecological balance. Grapes are hand-harvested. Employs Vino-Lok glass-on-glass stoppers for white, rosé, and select reds - eliminating cork TCA risk while preserving freshness.

Official organic certification achieved between 2007–2009, marking systemic change across hundreds of hectares. Yield Reduction:Produces just 5 t/ha compared to 15 t/ha in surrounding areas—quantifying a commitment to sustainable, high-quality yields. Multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals at international competitions, including Mundus Vini BioFach, Grand Reserve awarded gold in BioFach and PAR, earning 95/100 points.

Visitor Engagement & Experience

The winery is part of the local association of wineries in the region- Wines of Sakar and participates in all regional wine festivals. The festivals are linked to the four seasons and present the South Sakar region as an attractive wine destination, rich in wineries to visit, natural landmarks, tourist sites, and multicultural cuisine. After each festival, the wineries hold an Open Day for all festival participants, in which Terra Tangra also participates.
